Analyzing the clinical presentation and associated signs and symptoms, with the diagnostic tools commonly used. Lastly, we will identify and formulate a safe anesthetic plan that best adapts to the type, size and location of the foreign body.
Topic 2: Beware – Perioperative COVID-19 Infection in the Pediatric Patient-Angela Camfield, MD
Anesthesiologists today face the evolving pathophysiology of the COVID-19 pandemic. The literature first described infection in children as mostly asymptomatic with some pulmonary signs and symptoms. My experience at a pediatric cancer and research hospital has proven that we will be facing not only pulmonary manifestations of COVID-19, but also extrapulmonary pathophysiology. My goal is to provide up to date signs, symptoms, and treatments for the emerging cases of COVID-19+ patients encountered in routine and emergency anesthetics, thereby allowing anesthesiologists to be armed with the latest experience and recommendations to care for pediatric patients presenting with active or recent COVID-19 infection with or without MIS-C.
