        Speakers: Enrico Camporesi, MD

        This course covers high-risk parturients, including patients with limited or absent prenatal care, who are exposed to hemorrhagic risks, such as placenta previa, placenta accrete and similar abnormalities. A team-based approach to rapidly diagnose the threat, use of ultrasounds, and invasive radiology techniques to document the anatomical alterations, stratification of risk by referral to tertiary centers, collaborative advanced protocols comprising endovascular occlusive balloon insertion before C-section. At the conclusion of the course, the participants will be able to:

        1) illustrate our recently-experienced large number of referrals for placenta accrete, and our critical analysis of the published results, highlighting the multidisciplinary approach to surgery;
        2) apply the team approach to diagnose, and obtain best anatomical evidence of the possible threat due to bleeding and preparation for resuscitation in a controlled manner;
        3) review the evidence from the literature on the use of intra-operative balloon occlusion to manage sudden blood loss in these C-sections and C-section/hysterectomies.
